Ruby B. Roberts (97) of Effingham, formerly of Stewardson

Ruby R. Roberts, of Effingham, formerly of Stewardson, IL, passed away at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 in Heartland Senior Living, Neoga, IL. She would have been 98 on Monday, November 25, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 24 in the Mode United Methodist Church, Mode, IL, with Rev. David Ducommon officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday in the church. Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery, near Beecher City, IL.  Memorials may be given to the Mode United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Ruby was born on November 25, 1921 in Mode, Illinois, the daughter of Roy Edward and Tenna Anna (Holmes) Syfert. She married Don William Roberts on November 1, 1945. Ruby worked in the bakery at Martin’s IGA in Effingham until her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, embroidering and making quilt blocks. Ruby was a member of the Mode United Methodist Church. She was a faithful servant to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved and cared for others. 

She and her husband, Don, had no children, but her nieces and nephews and special friends, George and Anna Handley, became her large family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; brothers, Elmer, Olin and John Syfert; and sisters, Edna Prosser, Wanda Jones, Ruth Reed and Virginia Becker.
