Helen Tappendorf (78) of Effingham

Helen L. Tappendorf, 78, of Effingham, formerly of Altamont died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Effingham.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul ELCA Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont or Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center Activity Fund, Effingham.

Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Helen was born on Wednesday, September 10, 1941 in rural Altamont to Theodore and Elnore Milleville Tappendorf. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont. Helen was previously employed with the Opportunity Center, Teutopolis. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading and watching cooking demonstrations.

She is survived by her sisters, Mabel (Dave) Ruppel, Oakford and Lorene (Tom) Wilson of Fairborn, Ohio; brother, Lester (Alice) Tappendorf of Huber Heights, Ohio; nephews, nieces and cousins.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harold and sister, Doris Jean, both in infancy.
