Lois Ilene Matson (95) of Shumway

Lois Ilene Matson, 95, of Shumway, IL passed away at 1:28 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, IL.

Lois was born September 28, 1923, in Albert City, IA, the daughter of Orville and Lena (Grupe) Cohea. She and Hillard Merrill Matson were united in holy matrimony on December 23, 1946 in Decatur, IL and together they farmed in the Shumway area for many years. They celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage before his passing on June 10, 2006. Lois was a member of the Shumway United Methodist Church. Family was Lois’s pride and joy. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and having visitors stop by the house.

Surviving are daughters: Alta Lucille Florey of Beecher City, IL, Wendy Lee (Jay) Calvert of Otsego, MI and Laura Lynne Higgins of Columbus, OH; son, Merrill Matson of Carbondale, IL; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter, Brenda Marcielle Buzzard; two grandsons: John Buzzard and Cody Calvert; six sisters: Velma, Arvella, Winnijean, Mildred, Betty and Lucille.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City, IL with Pastor Jim Williams officiating. Burial will take place in Beecher City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City, IL. Memorials may be made in Lois’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
