Claude Brumleve (98) of Teutopolis

Claude E. Brumleve, 98 of Teutopolis, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 2 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the church with a 7 p.m. parish prayer service. Memorial donations may be given to masses, Meals on Wheels or the donor’s choice. Claude was born November 25, 1920 in Teutopolis, the son of the late Louis and Emma (Miller) Brumleve. He married Geraldine (Krone) Wegman of July 13, 1968 and she preceded him in death on May 10, 2018. Claude was also preceded in death by his sister, Marian Schultz and brothers, Joe and Louis Brumleve Jr.

Claude was drafted into WWII as a Navy Seabee. He served in France and the Aleutian Islands from 1943 to 1946 where he reconstructed harbors, airport runways and operated barges in getting their supplies. Claude was a partner with his brother, Joe at Brumleve Canvas in Teutopolis. After his retirement, he spent time traveling with his wife to various states and sometimes to Europe. They loved staying in their mobile home on many camping excursions and spending several winters in Florida and Arizona. Claude enjoyed flowers and his birds. He looked forward to visits from his friends, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and always parted with “Come Back Soon”.

He was a member of St. Francis Church in Teutopolis, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2874, American Legion Post #924 and was a lifetime member of the Effingham V.F.W.

Surviving is his sister, Dolores (Barney) Esker of Teutopolis. He is also survived by his step-children, Tom (Connie) Wegman of Effingham and Judy (Mike) Pals of Teutopolis; grandchildren, Tracy (Todd) Darland of Carmel, IN, Todd (Carrie) Wegman of Effingham, Ted (Carrie) Wegman of St. Louis, MO, Tricia Wegman of Denver, CO, Craig (Shermini) Pals of St. Louis, Eric (Cheryl) Pals and Matt (Nancy) Pals of Teutopolis; 20 great-grandchildren, Nick, Noah, Jacob, Jackson, Molly, Elise and Hallie of Teutopolis, Mary Claire, Ava, Ellie, Charlie of Effingham, Leah, Charlotte, Tessa of St. Louis, MO, Audrey, Thomas, Elizabeth, Gus, Henry and Leo of Carmel, IN. To them, he was simply, Grandpa Brumleve.
