Charles F. King, 81, of Teutopolis, passed away at 11:50 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Charlie was born on October 22, 1937 in Flora, the son of the late Ernest and Melba (Schuerenberg) King. He married Joy McGilvary on July 3, 1968 in Oblong and she preceded him in death on August 8, 2019.

In 1967, Mr. King enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War retiring in 1975. Charlie would remain in the Army Reserves until 1985. After his career in the military, he went on to work with the Oil Producer’s Association as a maintenance technician. Charlie was an avid bowler and loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a people person and enjoyed the company of others. He enjoyed giving people candy whenever he would see them and many of Charlie’s friends referred to him as “The Candyman”.

He is survived by a daughter; Charlene Diane King of Teutopolis, a son; Charles Norman King of Effingham, four grandchildren, Johnny King, Dwayne McDonald, Tammie King and James King, four great grandchildren; Mia, Kolby, Addie and Harley and by several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Joy Marie King and by a sister, Mary Sue Harrington.

Funeral services honoring the life of Charles will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, August 26 at Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church in Effingham. Pastor John Hollis will officiate. Interment will follow at the Old Union Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am until the time of services on Monday at the church. Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of the care and arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family.
