Evelyn Vail, 90 of Effingham, passed away peacefully Monday evening, July 8, 2019 at Willowbrook Memory Support Residence in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wheeler with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham and for one hour prior to the funeral service Friday morning at the church. Evelyn was born January 23, 1929 on the family farm in Dieterich, the daughter of Edwin and Edith (Zimdars) Behrns. She began her education in Dieterich and graduated in 1946 from Teutopolis High School in Teutopolis. Evelyn worked at the Effingham Telephone Company as a telephone operator, WCRA Radio Station in Advertising Sales and Crossroads Press in the Traffic Department. She retired in 1994. Evelyn was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she enjoyed volunteering with the Braille program. She enjoyed bowling and participated in city, state and national league tournaments while a member of the E.W.B.A.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Darrell (Sandy nee. Rentfrow) Schwerman and Charlie (Donna nee. Wendt) Schwerman, both of Effingham; brother, Lyle Behrns of Dieterich; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Darrell Jr. (Dana nee. Statler) & Ella Schwerman of San Antonio, TX, Jared, Camden & Emilia Schwerman of Seattle, WA, Ken (Jamie nee. Goddard), Alec & Brayden Schwerman of Effingham/ Decatur, Karie (Trevor) Apke, Ashtyn, Colten & Logan Miller of Green Creek, Jamie (Jastin) Antisdel, Adali, Ames & Emry Antisdel of St. Louis, MO, Charlie (Stacey nee. Tarwater) Schwerman, Isabel Mae & Isley June Schwerman of Effingham and Lindsey (Adam) Storm, Conner, Colin & Theo Storm of Effingham; sister-in-law, Carol Jean Behrns of Dieterich, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wayne Behrns.
