Dave was born in Champaign, Illinois on April 7, 1954, the son of Merl and Iva F. (Staley) Swick. On November 29, 1977, Dave married Donna Gayle Clark. She survives.  For twenty-five years, Dave was an auctioneer and certified appraiser. Together with his wife, they owned and operated Dave Swick Auctions for seventeen years.

Dave was a member of the Certified Appraiser Guild of America, board member of the Sunrise Youth Center & Community Building and board member of the Jasper County Historical Museum.

He loved fishing and the outdoors. He planted his backyard with plants to attract a variety of butterflies and other wildlife. Being collectors at heart, Dave and Donna spent many hours looking for special pieces to add to their collections often while just enjoying “the thrill of the hunt.”

Dave will be loved and remembered by his wife Donna Swick of Newton; brothers and sisters in law Bonnie Freeman of Yorkville, IL, Jeril Clark, wife Yvonna of Vincennes, IN, Edna Fitzmaurice, husband Albert of Newton and Debbie Rubsam, husband Dave of Yale and many dear friends in the auction community.

His father Merl, mother and step-father Iva and Marion Heady, parents-in-law Fred and Nada Clark, and brothers-in-law Dennis Clark and Phil Freeman preceded him in death.

Memorial gifts in honor of Dave may be made to the Sunrise Youth Center & Community Building.
