Geraldine R. “Gerry” Miller, 92, of Effingham, IL, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Geraldine was born on September 29, 1926 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Herman and Clara (Repking) Habing. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Miller on July 2, 1949, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2000.

Gerry was a graduate of St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, IL, and worked as a nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital and other places as needed before retiring in the mid-70s. She was always the family nurse for her relatives. She also worked at Catholic Charities and FISH. She was an avid reader, enjoyed dancing with her husband, loved camping, fishing, and going to garage sales. She collected jewelry to repurpose it for the residents in the nursing homes. Gerry was best known for her coconut cream pies. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She was a lifetime member of the Effingham VFW Auxiliary Post 1769 and walked in many parades.

Gerry is survived by her sons, Dan (Lynn) Miller of Punta Gorda, FL, John (Jayne) Miller of Effingham, and Steve (Sharon) Miller of Teutopolis; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Elaine Sieben, Sr. Mary Barbara Habing SSND, Marilyn (Dennis) Noonan, and Ruth (Joseph) Swingler; and brother-in-law, Richard Zimmerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; siblings, Anna Mae (Stanley) Gillespie, Janet (Francis) Flach, Pauletta Zimmerman, Rita Habing, Herman Habing, and Norma (Ambrose) Worman; and brother-in-law, Melvin Sieben.
