Mary Lou (Bussman) Deters, 80 of rural Teutopolis, passed away at 6:58 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. A combined CCW/CD of A Rosary will be held at 3:45 p.m., followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the church. Memorial donations may be given to the donor’s choice. Mary Lou was born November 23, 1938 in Effingham, the daughter of Louis and Opal (Coen) Bussman. She married Joseph F. Deters on February 8, 1964 and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2015.

Mary Lou was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis where she was involved with the Council of Catholic Women and former officer of Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of the Effingham County Home Extension and a former election judge for St. Francis Township.

Mary Lou enjoyed creating genealogy scrapbooks that went beyond names to include photos and newspaper clippings. She loved to work in her flower garden and extensively plan and execute her decorations for Christmas. Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and being a part of their activities.

Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Brian (Kim) Deters of Effingham and Brad (Cathy) Deters of Teutopolis; daughter, Jody (Tom) Hardiek of Dieterich; grandchildren, Jacob Hardiek, Kelci (Martin) Butler, Matthew, Julie, Eric, Casey and Caleb Deters; step-great-grandchildren, Blaykli Francis and Caleigh Butler.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Jamie Leigh Hardiek and sister, Catherine Bussman.
