Theodore Joseph "Ted" Hanfland, 74 of Sigel, Illinois passed away at 3 a.m. Wednesday March 6, 2019, in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, Missouri.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am Monday, March 18 in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel with Rev. Fr. Sunder Ery officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7pm Sunday with a parish service at 7pm Sunday, all at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Fear Nothing at P.O. Box 453, Effingham, Illinois 62401 or the St. Michael's School of Sigel, Illinois. As per Ted's wishes cremation rites will be accorded. The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL is in charge of arrangements.

He was born February 26, 1945, in Effingham, Illinois the son of Peter J. and Ruth A. (Fearday) Hanfland. Ted married Dorothy "Dot" Goldstein October 2, 1965, in Sigel, Illinois. He served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967 serving in Viet Nam. Ted  was the owner/operator of Ted Hanfland Engraving in Sigel. He was formerly employed at Hanfland Lumber Company, B. Mansfield & Co. as a book keeper and the Village Square Mall as a manager. Ted was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sigel, Effingham American Legion, Effingham Knights of Columbus, The Ramblin Relics Street Rod Club and a retired member of the Sigel Fire Department.  

Hanfland leaves his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Hanfland of Sigel; two brothers, Larry Hanfland (Janice) of Sigel and Dan Hanfland (Pam) of West Columbia, South Carolina; one sister, Susan Baugher of Windsor; brother-in-law, George Turnbull (Rebecca) of Greensboro, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Pauline Goldstien of Teutopolis and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Urban and Florence Goldstein; two brothers-in-law, Richard "Dick" Baugher and Richard "Rich" Goldstien and sister-in-law, Anna Louise Turnbull.
