Christine “May” (Ochs) Einhorn, 95, of Newton, died at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Newton Care Center.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. – Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, with Father Dean Probst officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Island Grove, Illinois.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. - Monday, January 28, 2019 at the church.  Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

May was born on May 1, 1923 in St. Marie, Illinois, the daughter of Benjamin Ochs and Rosa (Savoy) Ochs.  She married Albert Bernard Einhorn on December 31, 1943 and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1968.

May was a farm wife, fantastic mother, grandmother and an amazing cook.  She and her husband, Albert, raised their 14 children on the family farm in Island Grove.  Albert died in 1968, leaving 11 children at home for May to raise.  In 1994, she moved to her house in Newton where she lived until she suffered a stroke in 2015.  Despite this setback, she loved life and was full of love and smiles for everyone. 

May was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Jasper County Red Hatters and Island Grove Card Club.  She loved traveling, playing cards every chance she got, gardening and flowers.  Her pastimes included bird watching, dancing, baking cakes with her sister-in-law Virginia Ochs and most of all, spending time with her loving family.  She never knew a stranger and always welcomed a new friend. 

May’s family and friends will always remember her as a happy, loving lady who lived life to the fullest.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Alberta (Linus)Willenborg of Effingham, Carolyn Westendorf of Dieterich, Arlin (Pat) Einhorn of Wheeler, Harold (Sharon) Einhorn of Newton, Robert (Kate) Einhorn of Teutopolis, Shirley (Don) Starwalt of Montrose, Don Einhorn of Newton, Patsy (Rick) Street of Wheeler, Delores (Jim) Tarr of Newton, Duane Einhorn of Newton, Dennis (Debbie) Einhorn of Newton, and Susie (Mark) Fitzmaurice of Newton. Daughter-in-Law Gail Einhorn of Dieterich, 37 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

May was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, 2 sons Larry Joe Einhorn and Kent Einhorn, her grandson Dalton Street, her great granddaughter Harper Einhorn, and her son-in-law Art Westendorf.
