Elnora was born September 1, 1922 in Banner Township (Shumway), the daughter of Noble E. and Gertrude P. (Laue) Smith. She graduated from Effingham High School and began working as a secretary of sorts for Mr. Gravenhorst. As time went on, she worked for an attorney. Elnora then married Wilbert O. “Cotton” Dammerman on March 15, 1941 in St. Louis with Cotton’s brother and Elnora’s mother as witnesses. She needed her mother’s permission as she was not eighteen. “Cotton” left for the service five days later.

In May of 1941, she returned to Effingham for the birth of their only child, Leo R. “Dick” Dammerman on June 13, 1941. With the war over, they made their home back in Effingham where both of them worked for Norge. She left there to work for Spiegel Catalog store until it closed. Her longest job was with Best Homes until her retirement.

Elnora belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church most of her life before transferring to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri after moving to her son’s home. Elnora was a member there until her death.

Elnora’s UNO-SkipBo friends meant the world to her with their weekly shopping at the IGA Store, eating lunch in their cafe and then home to play cards all afternoon. She had wonderful neighbors who watched over each other. Phil Zimmerman was her “Personal” gardener, supplying her with fresh produce from spring to fall. Elnora also lived for strawberries and Schottman/Dust sweet corn.

Elnora is survived by her son, Leo R. “Dick” (Sharon) Dammerman of Bates City, MO; granddaughter, Kimberly (Bret) Getzel of Overland Park, KS and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Alexis Getzel.

She will be dearly missed, but we know she is in heaven!
