Edward Arthur Opfer, age 88, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2018 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier, Illinois. There will be a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Pastor Douglas Meyer will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in rural Shobonier, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Church in rural Shobonier, Illinois. Memorials may go to St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the donor’s choice. Edward was born on February 13, 1930 in Lincoln, Missouri the son of Arthur and Cordelia (Hollman) Opfer. He married Darlene June Lotz on August 6, 1955. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Men’s Club in rural Shobonier, Illinois. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. Edward was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene June Opfer of Shobonier, Illinois; son, Craig Opfer (Amy Reeter) of rural Shobonier, Illinois; daughter, Connie Feather (husband David) of Patoka, Illinois; three grandchildren, Jonathan Feather (friend Ami), Jason Opfer (wife Tessa), and Nicole Doehring (husband Blake); four great-grandchildren, Cade and Ben Opfer, Jackson and Luke Doehring; brother, James Opfer (wife Judy); sister, Elaine Lange.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Cordelia Opfer; sister, Doris White; brother-in-law, Loren Lange and beloved grandson, Nick Feather.
