Ava Jean "Aunt Sissy" Milchman (86) of Stewardson

Ava Jean “Aunt Sissy” Milchman, 86, of Stewardson, IL passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at home.

Ava was born on December 25, 1931, in Windsor, the daughter of Paul F. and Bernadine (Burkhart) Milchman. She was a 1949 graduate of Stewardson High School and a graduate of Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. Ava moved to Corpus Christi Texas and worked in the banking industry until retiring in 1986. She continued working part-time until moving back to Stewardson. She was a member of the Stewardson Historical Society and could be found selling poppies each year for the American Legion Auxiliary. Ava loved to volunteer with the Effingham Community Schools Unit #40 where she was known as “Aunt Sissy” by the kids and staff as well as her own family. She also volunteered at the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga. She could be found volunteering at any events that were happening in Stewardson. Aunt Sissy was known for her sugar cookies and for the countless birthday and holiday cards she sent to everyone. She truly enjoyed giving rather than receiving.

Surviving are her brother, Paul (Margie) Milchman of Effingham; niece-in-law, Janice Milchman-Alumbaugh; niece, Paula (Matt) Jones of Effingham; great nieces and nephews: Mark Jones, Paul Jones, Justin Milchman all of Effingham, Tina (Carl) Dodson, Zabrina Robison all of Salem, John (Tracey) Robison of Altamont and many great-great nieces and nephews and a host of friends that were like family to her.

Preceding her in death were her parents and nephew Roger Milchman.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24 at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson with Reverend Dale Sims officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of service at the funeral home. Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded with hopes of her ashes being spread in the Gulf of Mexico.
