John J. Waldhoff (86) of Teutopolis, formerly of Dieterich

John J. Waldhoff, 86. of Teutopolis, Illinois, formerly of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 9:02 A.M. Saturday, May 26, 2018, in the Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Effingham, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 1 in the St. Francis Of Assisi Church in Teutopolis, Illinois, with Father Joseph Carlos OFM of Teutopolis officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday with a Parish Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. in the St. Francis of Assisi Church of Teutopolis, Illinois. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Dieterich, with Military Services conducted by the American Legion Post # 628 of Dieterich, Illinois. The Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, Illinois, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the John Waldhoff Memorial Scholarship Fund, Dieterich Kluthe Center or Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund.

John was born July 1, 1931, in Effingham County, Illinois, the son of Anthony "Tony" and Florence Gertrude (Wente) Waldhoff. John married Dorothy Ann "Dot" Henkelman, April 23, 1952, in Effingham, Illinois and Dorothy passed away July 25, 2016. He was a retired farmer and he also was the owner/operator of the Waldhoff Backhoe Service in Dieterich. Mr. Waldhoff was a very active member of his community, nothing tickled John more than to do something for someone else. He was the Commander of the Keystone Hat Squad (K-Cops ) and the owner/trainer of the famous Roach the Rooster, the star of Barnyard Bingo Benefits. John, his K Cops squad and Roach appeared in numerous area parades to promote the Dieterich 4th of July celebration. John was a member of the St. Isidore Catholic Church of Dieterich, Illinois, and was also past president of the Parish Council of Immaculate Conception Church in Dieterich and served as past president of the Dieterich School Board. John also served in the United States Army during the Korean War and he was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post # 628, of Dieterich, IL, Ruritan, D.C.D.C., and the Coffee Shop Cartel all of Dieterich, IL.

Mr. Waldhoff leaves one son, Michael Waldhoff (Susan) of Avon, IN; two daughters, Nancy Weber of Teutopolis, IL and Carol O'Dell (Tim) of Neoga, IL; one brother, Clete Waldhoff (Karen) of Teutopolis, IL; one sister-in-law, Margaret Luedke (John) of Charleston, IL; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Ann "Dot" Waldhoff; one son-in-law, Melvin Weber; three sisters, Lou Ann Waldhoff, Shirley Worman and Kay Haarman; one granddaughter, Candis O’Dell; one great granddaughter, Callie Enlow.
