Sallie L. Johnson, 98, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 28, 2018 at Willowbrook of Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Sallie to Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham or the Effingham Public Library.

Sallie was born on July 24, 1919, in Tuscola, IL, the daughter of Joseph Elgar and Florence (Martin) Leachman. She was united in marriage to James Arthur Johnson II on August 29, 1941, in Union, MO. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2008. Sallie dedicated many years of her life alongside her husband Jim with Johnson Funeral Home. She was an avid reader, birdwatcher, and also enjoyed knitting. In her younger years, Sallie was always gardening and caring for her many varieties of rose bushes, daylilies and other flowers. She especially loved playing golf and bridge and cherished the fellowship she had with her many friends. She and her husband Jim also enjoyed many years together wintering in Mt. Dora, FL. Sallie was a member of the Effingham Country Club Ladies Golf Association, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, Centenary United Methodist Church, Esther Circle and the quilt group, 57-year member of Chapter FA of P.E.O., past Matron and 70-year member of Eastern Star Chapter 110, former member of Ann Crooker St. Clair Chapter DAR, and the Green Thumb Garden Club.

Sallie is survived by her children, Donald J. (Anna) Johnson of Effingham, Judy (Don) Stuckey of Leeds, AL, Dennis (Debra) Johnson of Effingham; step-son, James A. (Cathy) Johnson III of Winter Park, FL; grandchildren, Maddie Johnson of Effingham, Patrick (fiancée, Courtney Koester) Johnson of Effingham, Amy (David) Williams of Indian Trails, NC, Todd (Amy) Stuckey of Tucker, GA, Jill Stuckey of Rock Hill, SC, Mandy (Steven) Christman of Rock Hill, SC, Katie (Scott) Smoron of Mt. Prospect, Kim Dubbelde of Decatur, Kelly Johnson of Savoy, Robin Morris of Orlando, FL, Mark (Kim) Johnson of St. Cloud, FL, and Matt (Melissa) Johnson of Winter Park, FL; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant brother, William George; husband, James; and a grandson, James Arthur Johnson IV.

The Johnson family would especially like to thank her special caregivers, Cindy, Lucy, and Cheri, and all the staff for the love and kindness shown to Sallie while at Willowbrook.
