Philip L. Wendt (69) of rural Teutopolis

Philip L. “Flip” Wendt, 69, passed away Sunday evening, March 11, 2018 at his home in Teutopolis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church with a 6:00 p.m. parish prayer service. Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.

Phil was born March 5, 1949 in Effingham, the son of Frank and Mildred (Coriell) Wendt. He married Mary Jo Luchtefeld on October 31, 1970. Philip served with the United States Marines in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. He was a member of St. Francis Church in Teutopolis, Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874, Teutopolis American Legion Post #924, a lifetime member of the Effingham V.F.W. #1769 and the D.A.V.. Phil worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for many years and was a lifelong farmer.

Phil is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of Teutopolis; sons, David (Amber) of Teutopolis, Andrew (Tricia) of Teutopolis, Robert (Annie) of Effingham and John Henry of Teutopolis; daughters, Tammy Wendt of Windsor and Emily Wendt (fiance, Jesse) of Effingham; grandchildren, Anna Lachenmeyer, Andrea Wendt, Cody Hardiek, Dydra Arnold, Gage, Molly, Lauran, Inman, Claire and Augustus “Gus” Wendt; step-grandson, Oakley Bonner; brothers, Tim (Jeanne) of Effingham and Vincent (Nancy) of Watson; sisters, Phyllis (John) Nichols of Grove City, OH, Jane (Ed) Kistner of Effingham and Lori (Steve) Martin of Effingham.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leonard (Betty) Wendt and great-granddaughter, Brennleigh.
