Lyle Emmet ‘Bebe’ Phillips, 81, of Altamont, died at 8:31 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 12 at the First United Methodist Church, Altamont, with Rev. Paige Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Arborcrest Memorial Park, rural Effingham. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and for 30 minutes prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the donors’ choice.

Bebe was born on Tuesday, February 18, 1936 in Effingham to Eugene and Marie Defebaugh Phillips. He married Mary Alice Morgan on May 13, 1955 at Centenary United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2008. Emmet was a self employed dairy farmer and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Altamont.

He is survived by his sons, Doug (Mishy) Phillips of Graysville, TN and Joe (Diana) Phillips of Effingham; daughters, Kathleen Phillips, Effingham, Diane (Butch) Claar, Effingham and Linda (Travis) Smith, Gadsden, AL; brother, Jerry (Gwen) Phillips, Effingham; sisters, Carol (Bob) Arnold, Maxine Lark, Sharon Phillips and Tammy (Allen) Birch, all of Watson. Grandchildren, Cody Phillips, Shelby, Morgan and Wyatt Phillips, Lyle (Elizabeth) Claar and Catelyn and Connor Smith.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa and brother Lewis.
