Gilbert Paul Frohning, 74, of Newton died at 10:50am Monday, January 1, 2018 at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care in Flora.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – Saturday, January 6 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois, with Fr. Mark Stec celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Friday at the church and ½ hour before the mass. In loving memory of Gilbert, memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church 5782 Ingraham Lane Newton, Illinois 62448. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Gilbert was born on March 21, 1943, in Jasper County, the son of William and Mary (Diemel) Frohning. Gilbert was a farmer and a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and working on antique tractors.

Gilbert is survived by: Sons - Doug (Paula) Frohning of Newton, Illinois; Wes Frohning of Lousiville, Illinois and Shawyn Frohning of Clay City, Illinois; Grandchildren – Rachel Frohning, Noah Frohning, Dylan Frohning, Hannah Frohning, Lane Frohning and Shae Frohning (Fiancé – Bobby Duncan); Great Granddaughter – Kaymden Duncan; Brothers – Victor (Lou) Frohning of Mt. Erie, Illinois; Dan Frohning of Ingraham, Illinois and J.V. (Marilyn) Frohning of Ingraham, Illinois; and Sister – Dorothy (Jim) Croy of Sailor Springs, Illinois.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, son Joshua Frohning, brothers Robert and Leo Frohning and a sister Ruth Butler.
