Martha Elizabeth Miller, 97, of St. Elmo died at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial  Hospital in Effingham.

Christian burial rites with graveside funeral services will be held Monday, December 4 at 10 a.m. at the Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo with the Rev. Daniel Laack officiating. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of St. Elmo and/or donor's choice.

Martha was born into the Christian family, one of eight siblings, of Henry and Elizabeth Egbert Kleinman. She began her long life February 22, 1920 at Evansville, Ind. Martha married James Robert Miller February 21, 1942 in Evansville. The family then moved to Central City, Kentucky and later in 1962 moved to St. Elmo. Her husband Robert preceded her in death October 15, 1995. Martha spent her life as a housewife and with her husband raised a familiy of three sons. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in  St. Elmo where she was active in the Ladies Aid cooking and quilting.

Martha is survived by her three sons, Stephen Henry (wife Bonnie) Miller of St. Elmo, Robert Ray Miller of Inman, South Carolina and Ralph Eugene (wife Dale) Powell of Spring Valley, California; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Miller; daughter-in-law, Joyce Miller; four brothers, three sisters and one grandchild.
