Leslie Dale Holland, 92, of Effingham, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 31 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with Rev. Roger Marshall officiating. Burial with military rites by Gieseking-Schwertdfeger VFW Post 7676 will follow at Funkhouser Cemetery, rural Effingham. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home and Family Services, 949 County Road 1300 N, Carmi, Il 62821 or the donors’ choice.

Dale was born on Wednesday, July 1, 1925 in Jackson Township, rural Effingham County to Gesler James and Minnie Pendlay Holland. He married Virginia May Vail on February 9, 1947 in the living room of Rev. Leonard Hitzel. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2014. He was a member of Jackson Township Baptist Church, rural Altamont. He was a retired brick and stone mason, had worked at Davidson Radiator shop and was Jackson Township Road Commissioner for 12 years. He and Virginia also spent many years as Campers on Mission. He was a WWII Army Infantry veteran having served in the European Theatre of operations.
Dale is survived by: his son, Carl Lee (Sharon Kay) Holland of Sparta; daughter-in-law, Jeanne (Holland) (Jim) Blakeman of Lafayette, IN; son-in-law Allen (friend, Christine Derrickson) of Effingham; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Misty Rhoads and her son Dylan, close family friends who became like a daughter and grandson.
In addition to his wife, Dale was preceded in death by: his son Forrest Dale; daughters Virginia Carole Holland and Sharon Louise Westendorf; brothers Nolan and Dean and sister Virginia Higgs.
