Helen L. Becker, 103, of Effingham, Illinois passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

A time of visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, October 29 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial following in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Helen was born September 26, 1914 in Kell, the daughter of Clifford and Lolabelle (Harvey) Tinch. Helen’s mother was a nurse’s aide who died at an early age of tuberculosis. Her father was the owner of an exclusive barber shop in Las Vegas, NV and was the first barber in the area to charge a dollar for a haircut. He was a notorious gambler and Helen did not know that he was alive until she was a young adult; therefore spending many of her formative years in foster homes. Helen married C. Glenn Becker and he preceded her in death in 1983 at the age of 72. She worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper for Good Life Chemicals; always a good money manager, as well as a very frugal person.

Helen is survived by her three children, Glenda Becker of Jacksonville, Mike (wife, Barbara) Becker of Englewood, FL and Mary Beth (husband, Jack) Weber of Wadesville, IN. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
