Robert L. “Bob” Ragan, 90, of Effingham, IL, joined his Heavenly Father at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Willowbrook of Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Strasburg. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Braille Center in Effingham, St. Paul’s (Blue Point) Lutheran Church in Altamont, or Lincolnland Hospice of Sarah Bush Lincoln.

Robert was born on September 14, 1927 in Clarksburg Township, Shelby County, IL, the son of Warren E. and Esther Grace (Hunter) Ragan. He married Myra Joyce Engel on September 5, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Strasburg. They were the parents of two children, Pamela and David. He and Myra were married 61 years before her passing in 2010. Bob was employed on the railroad, drove a milk truck, and worked at Caterpillar before returning to farming in 1960. He farmed 3 years near Dieterich before moving to the Gypsy farm near Lake Sara in 1963. He retired from farming in 1992 and moved to Effingham. Bob was a servant. He seldom sat still keeping busy fixing, cleaning, tidying and helping family and friends. He spent almost every day for 6 months assisting with the addition to St. Paul’s (Blue Point) Lutheran Church in Altamont.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Leonard) Storm of Stuart, FL; son, David (Rebecca) Ragan of Effingham; grandchildren, Sarah (Robert) West of Stuart, FL, Lara (Collin) Hitchcock of Clifton Park, NY, Douglas Repking of Effingham, Angela (Dan) Steineman of Effingham, and Kevin (Marilou) Repking of Baliuag, Philippines; great-grandchildren, Noah West, Abrah Hitchcock, McKenna and Aidan Steineman, Abigail and Allison Repking, and Khyle, Kim and Kaitlyn Repking; brother, Merle Ragan of Effingham; sisters, Carol (Bill) Jones of Lincoln, IL, and Wilma Spannagel of Strasburg; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Green of Strasburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myra; brother, Rollin Ragan; and sisters, Rosalie Schultz and Corma Hurst.
