Joseph L. "Joe" Ruholl (80) of Teutopolis

Joseph L. “Joe” Ruholl, 80, of Teutopolis, IL, was called home to his Heavenly Father at 4:19 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL, with his daughters by his side.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 22 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Joseph was born on December 10, 1936, to Alphonse and Clara (Hoene) Ruholl of Lillyville. He married Carol Ann Funneman on July 11, 1956. Together they had three children, and they would spend the next 43 years together, separated only by death. Carol Ann preceded him in death on June 9, 1999. Joe was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. He spent the greater part of his life working in the concrete industry, during most of which he owned and operated his own business pouring and delivering concrete pads to customers near and far. Joe took great pride in his work, and was very vocal about his desire to work up until the end of his time on Earth. Many will remember him as the hardest working man they have known.

Surviving are his daughters, Denise (Todd) Voelker of Shumway and Jodi (Jeff) Waymoth of Effingham; sisters, Pauline (Rich) Worman of Effingham, Marcie (Gary) Kruger of Effingham, and Kathy (Phil) Niebrugge of Decatur; three grandchildren, Alexandria (Tyler) Hoedebecke of Effingham, and Ellie and Evan Waymoth of Effingham; three step-grandchildren, Myah, Claire and Hayden; brothers-in-law, Bill (Shirley) Funneman of Teutopolis and Joe Huber of Teutopolis; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Gerald) Zerrusen of Teutopolis, Babe Funneman of Teutopolis, and Bette Funneman of Pana.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife and son Gary Joe, as well as sisters, Delores Vogt and Mary Ann Huber; two infant siblings, Mary Agnes and John Henry; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Although our hearts break with the pain we will feel in his absence, we rejoice for the celebration Joe is having with his wife and son in his eternal home.
