William Emerson Clark, 98, of Toledo, IL passed away at Cumberland Rehab & Health Care in Greenup, IL surrounded by family, on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 4:26 p.m.
Visitation will be held at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL on Tuesday, September 19 at 1:00 pm with funeral services starting at 3:00 pm. Burial with Military Rites performed by the Cumberland County Veterans will be at the Toledo Cemetery following the service. Memorial donations in his honor may be given to the Toledo Volunteers (formerly the Toledo Kiwanis) at PO Box 127, Toledo, IL 62468.

Emerson was born on August 27, 1919 in Toledo, IL, the son of Lewis Brookhart and Minnie Wilma (Hoover) Clark. He married Thelma Marie (Eggers) on December 20, 1941 in St. Charles, MO and celebrated over 75 years of marriage together.
He is survived by his wife Thelma, son David (Debbie) of Toledo; four grandchildren, Jeffery of Savoy, Rebecca (Brandon Custard) of Kissimmee, Mariah Bolin and Zachariah (Jill) Bolin of Mattoon; one great-grandchild Jayson Custard; one brother, Lewis Jr. (Wilma); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Laverle and one sister, Eloise Flake.
He was a 50 plus year member of the Toledo Methodist Church and the Toledo Kiwanis and was a Life Member of the Toledo American Legion and the Greenup VFW. Emerson graduated from Toledo High School in 1939. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945 during World War II. Emerson was a self-employed life-long farmer. Emerson and Thelma enjoyed many years of retirement in Florida during the winter.
