Alvena Joy Smith, 96, of Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Decatur, died at 10:35 pm Sunday, September 10, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 16 at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home in Decatur, IL, with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Pastor Gerald Thompson will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the donors choice.

Alvena was born June 14, 1921 in Mason City, IL., the daughter of Wilbur and Elsie Mae (Woods) Marshall, Sr. She married George Logan Smith on June 12, 1953. She was a retired factory worker and a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and Bingo. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters Carolyn (Stan) Paczkowski and Johnette Woolley; brother Johnnie Marshall; grandchildren Robin (Jamey) Johnson, Michael (Denise) Riley, Jennifer Riley, Shane (Kathleen) Smith, and Shelly (Frank) Herboth; great-grandchildren William and Nathan Riley, Zac Mendoza Riley and Samuel Clemens, Katelyn and Logan Smith, Megan and Jessica Herboth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George Logan Smith; son George Robert Smith; brother Wilbur Marshall, Jr.; sister Mildred Goodpasture; and great-grandson Randy Riley-Chugg.
