Eleanor Marie Byers, 86, of Edgewood, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 9 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois with a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Jeff Morrison will be officiating. Burial will be in Keen’s Chapel Cemetery in rural Laclede, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at Pagel Funeral Homes, Edgewood, Illinois.  Memorials may go to the Harvest United Methodist Church, Edgewood, Illinois or donor’s choice.

Eleanor was born September 9, 1930 to Charles and Martha (Depner) Shumaker in West Township, Effingham County, Illinois. Eleanor married Franklin Byers and they resided in Clay County, Illinois. Eleanor was a member of the Harvest United Methodist Church and attended services as long as her health permitted.  She loved the farm, gardening, sewing, and quilting.  She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Ronnie Byers (wife Kathy) of Edgewood, Illinois, Troy Byers of Edgewood, Illinois; one daughter, Debbie May of Decatur, Illinois; two granddaughters, Hillary Dawkins (husband Wes) of Louisville,Illinois, Kenzie May of Normal, Illinois, one grandson, Caden May of St. Anne, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Kuenstler, Holden Dawkins, Gavin Dawkins, and one on the way, all of Louisville, Illinois; brother, Olin Shumaker of Edgewood, Illinois; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hira (Bud) and Genevieve Byers of Effingham, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Martha Shumaker; husband, Franklin Byers; two brothers, Kermit Shumaker, Clayton Shumaker (wife Verna); sister, Wanda Shumaker in infancy.
