John was born May 8, 1967, in Mattoon, IL, to Donald and Mary (Edwards) Cordes. He married Kayla Koste on May 10, 1991 in Effingham. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing with his father, brother and children. He was a proud father of his two girls and loved them and his wife deeply. He was ever the handyman as he always made repairs or tinkered with gadgets at his mother-in-law’s home. He never missed a Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Steelers or Boston Celtics game. He loved coaching his daughter, Kourtney, when she played basketball at Sacred Heart School, and he was dubbed the “study buddy” for his children. He was employed at J&J Ventures for 19 years and saw his co-workers and bosses as a second family.
