Verena L. Kreke (93) of Effingham

Verena L. Kreke, 93 of Effingham, passed away Sunday morning, September 3, 2017 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. C.C.W. rosary. Memorial donations may be given to the donor’s choice.

Verena was born October 9, 1923 in Teutopolis, the daughter of Clem and Rose (Rieman) Ruholl. She married Albert A. Kreke in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 2000. Verena was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Effingham and the Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed camping, quilting and playing cards.

Verena is survived by sons, Kenneth (Diane) of Mason, Gary Joe (Marilee) of Effingham; daughters, Sandra (Tom) Cox of Stewardson, Jeannie (Wayne) Funneman of Teutopolis, Cheryl (Jeff) Meyers of Effingham; three brothers, Henry (Alice) Ruholl of Teutopolis, Robert (Jane) Ruholl of Teutopolis and James (Debbie) Ruholl of Farina; two sisters, Helen Walker of Effingham and Mary Lou (James) Vonderheide of Stewardson; sisters-in-law, Norma Ruholl of Teutopolis and Vera Kreke of Effingham; 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Verena was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Susan (Gerald “Jerry”) Meyer; brothers, Wilbert, Norbert, Albert and Raymond Ruholl; sisters, Elsie Sur, Eleanor Koester and Rosemary Hille.
