Michael L. ‘Mike’ Smith, 60, of Brownstown, died at 7:52 p.m., Friday, August 25, 2017 at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown with Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, rural St. Peter. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery or the donors choice.
Michael Lee Smith was born on Saturday, September 1, 1956 in Vandalia, IL to Russell and Phyllis (Pruett) Smith. He was a salesman, mechanic, musician, having taught guitar and piano, had attended Lake Land College, Mattoon and Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and loved animals. He attended the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Smith of Brownstown; sister, Linda Getz of Pana; 3 nephews, Troy (Heidi) Smith, Brent (Janet) Getz, and Brady Getz; 2 great nieces, Allie Mae Smith, Karleigh Schmitz; and one great nephew, Deegan Russell Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
