John E. Allen (72) of Heartville

John Edward Allen, 72, of Heartville, IL, unexpectedly passed away at 4:17 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Pana Community Hospital in Pana, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 31 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or donor’s choice.

John was born on July 7, 1945, in Effingham, IL, the son of Delbert and Margaret (Babbs) Allen. John attended Effingham schools graduating from Effingham High School. From 1964-1968 John served in the United States Air Force as a helicopter mechanic. Most of his service was in Anchorage, Alaska. After leaving the Air Force, he became an IBEW union electrician working in many different places and making numerous friends. He retired after 40 years as an electrician. John enjoyed restoring old cars, collecting knives, and being a partner in Allen Quarter Horses with his brother David and nephew Kent. He enjoyed spending time at the horse shows and seeing “horse people” friends. John was always generous with his time and always available to help family and friends in their time of need.
John is survived by his brother, David (Carol) Allen of Heartville; sister-in-law, Alice Allen of Naperville; nephews, Kevin (Eran) Allen of Effingham, and Kent (Dawn) Allen of Heartville; nieces, Kendra (Mike) Bryant of Heartville, Tammy Allen of Placitas, NM, and Tonya (Jeff) Faber of Naperville. He enjoyed being around his great nephews and great nieces, teasing them and having fun. Great nieces include, Ashley Doedtman, Tiffany Bryant, Brianna Bryant, McKenzie Allen, Megan Allen all of Effingham, and Abigail Faber of Naperville; and great nephews, Cody Bushur of Urbana, Tanner Bryant, Steven Bryant, Dalton Allen, Noah Allen all of Effingham, and Will Faber of Naperville. They will truly miss Uncle “Johnny”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Allen; and nephew, Tim Allen.
