Adele P. (nee Sims) Vonderheide, 76, of Centralia, IL, passed away on Wednesday August 23, 2017 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 28 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. The family respectfully requests all donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation.

Adele was born on January 9, 1941, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Gordon and Della (Dust) Sims. She was united in marriage to Donald A. Vonderheide on August 11, 1962 in Effingham, and he survives in Centralia. Mrs. Vonderheide was a 1959 graduate of St. Anthony High School in Effingham. She was co-owner of The Wood Shed in Centralia with her husband. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia and Prairie State Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. Adele enjoyed attending craft shows with her husband featuring their custom-made furniture and spending time with friends, family and her pets, Sid, Buddy, Henry, Laverne and Shirley, and Missy. She also enjoyed knitting and traveling, especially camping trips. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed as a devoted wife, caring mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother, and cherished friend.

In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by a son, Jay Vonderheide of Delray Beach, FL; four daughters, Renée Vonderheide Niepoetter of Jacksonville, FL, Gretchen Vonderheide Sussen and husband Rich of Manchester, TN, Kathleen Vonderheide Ross and fiancé Brian Nolen of Effingham, and Heidi Vonderheide Berry and husband Chris of Centralia; grandchildren, Amanda Bellamy and husband Ryan, Ethan, Madalynn and Nolan Sussen, Dierdre Ross and Caleb Ross, and Alex Nolen; great-grandson, Nash Bellamy; sister, Becky Gobczynski and husband Leon of Teutopolis; and sister-in-law, Pat Fuesting and husband Darrell of Effingham.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five children in infancy, Christopher, Joseph Jude, Donald J., Christine and Benjamin; and brother-in-law, Gerald Vonderheide.
