Carlene Diehl Holste (76) of Effingham

Carlene Diehl Holste, 76, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday afternoon August 23, 2017 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3 miles South of Dieterich, with the Rev. Stephen Gillet officiating. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham and from 9am to 10am Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dieterich, or the donor’s choice.

Carlene was born on August 7, 1941, on the family farm North of Effingham and lived there most of her life, the daughter of Herbert John and Carrie (Wohltman) Diehl. She was a 1959 graduate of Effingham High School. She was united in marriage with Donald Dan Holste on October 9, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1982. Carlene was employed at Taylor Law Office and Schniederjon Law Office in Effingham and at City Hall in Effingham for over 43 years. Her life was devoted to her three sons and grandchildren who were the focus and delight of her life. She also enjoyed her work and the friends she was fortunate to make during her employment and travels. She also enjoyed traveling, the farm, and flowers. She traveled to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Egypt, England, Ireland, Poland, Latvia, Italy, France, and Brazil, and 49 of the 50 states.

She is survived by her beloved sons, Daniel Diehl (Linda Grelck) Holste of Lansing, IL, David Martin (Mindy) Holste and Daren John (Beverly) Holste both of Dieterich; beloved grandchildren, Kayla Holste, Allyson Holste, Jackson Holste, and John Holste and step-granddaughter, Jeannie Coffey (Mark) Schabbing, all of Dieterich. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ralph Stuckemeyer; four nieces, Ronda (Basil) Goers, Cheryl (Jerry) Pruemer, Carla (Ross) Cornett, and Cathy (Ron) Loy; and one nephew, Ronald (Lea) Stuckemeyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Carroll Stuckemeyer.
