Thomas was born on November 9, 1923, in Bleakwood, TX, the son of Calvin L. and Louisa R. (McFatter) Marshall. Tom was known by his close friends as “Tex.” He served his country in the Army Air Corps Glider Division during WWII, serving in seven campaigns throughout Europe, including Normandy. After the war, the search for work brought him to Illinois where he met his wife, Lora Rose Holding.

His career led him to become a land appraiser and negotiator for the Illinois State Highway Department. Tom supported his community and church, Centenary United Methodist Church, but was humble of his actions. Photography was a true passion in life for Tom that even won him awards at the county fair. He also enjoyed golf and traveling with his wife, Rose. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and an avid St Louis Cardinals fan all of his life, even for being raised in Texas. More importantly, Tom found joy in supporting Effingham athletics and watching his grandsons play sports.

Tom is survived by his wife, Rose Marshall of Effingham; son, J.C. (Bev) Marshall of Effingham; grandsons, Levi (Rachel) Marshall of Chester, J.W. (Christina) Marshall of Dallas TX, and Richard (fiancée, Whitney Bledsoe) Marshall of Dallas, TX; and great-grandson, Calvin Marshall of Chester.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; and 1 brother.
