Raymond Paul Berg (92) of Altamont

Raymond Paul Berg, 92, of Altamont, Illinois passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 12 at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Churuch, Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Visitation will be conducted from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont and again one hour before the funeral service at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Memorials may be made to the Altamont Lutheran Interparish School, 203 East Division Street, Altamont, IL 62411 or the donor's choice.

Raymond was born one of five siblings of August and Alma Mercier-Berg September 25, 1924 at the family farm Mound Township in the Bethlehem Community, Effingham County near Altamont. He was raised and educated in the values of the church. Raymond married Marian Florence Kirchoff June 6, 1948 in the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Altamont by the Rev. Karl Weinrich. Marian preceded Raymond in death Sunday, December 23, 2012. Raymond spent his life in the local community beginning in St. Elmo as a mechanic, then moving with his family to Altamont in 1958. However, in 1957 is when Raymond and Marian opened the Berg Service Station, which continued until 1990. The family-owned and operated business provided an income as well as an education for the entire family, where Raymond and Marian passed their knoweldge to their children and grandchildren. Raymond continued to maintain the family farm, which became a centennial farm, until his death.
Raymond is survived by his children, Roger (wife Claudia) Berg of Altamont, Jerry (wife Margaret) Berg of Hindsdale, Larry (wife Coezette) Berg, Brenda Berg; grandchildren, Randall (wife Jenee) Berg, Catherine (husband Eric) Dothager, Mark (wife Jennifer) Berg, Austin Berg, Grace Berg, Martin Berg, Clark (wife Elizabeth) Asher Erica Asher; great-grandchildren, Riley and Lucas Berg, Makenna and Aubrey Dothager, and Clair and Kaley Berg; sisters, Lorna Berg and Hilma Berg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Florence Kirchoff-Berg, daughter, Shirley Asher, son-in-law, Hans Asher; parents, August Ferdinand Berg and Alma Louise Mercier-Berg and brothers, Arnold (wife Ann) Berg and Willie (wife Martha Berg).
