Stephen T. Worland, 94, of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 4:55 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. (CT) Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Neoga, Illinois with Father Sunder Ery officiating. Family and friends may call from 8:45-9:45 a.m. (CT) Saturday at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Shelby County, Illinois. Local arrangements were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home in Columbus. Final arrangements are entrusted to Swengel – O’Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, Illinois.

Mr. Worland was born February 19, 1923, in Neoga, Illinois, the son of James Valentine and Mary B. Montgomery Worland. He married Roberta W. McCarthy August 19, 1948. She preceded him in death March 6, 2011. Mr. Worland was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was honorably discharged June 16, 1946. He was received his education including a PhD from the University of Illinois. Mr. Worland was a Professor of Economics at the University of Notre Dame retiring in 1987 after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus and he passed his love of music to all seven of his children.

Survivors include his children, Susan (Michael Bentley) Worland of Berkley, California, Nancy (Apple Muncy) Worland of Taylorsville, Indiana, Robert Worland of South Bend, Indiana, Priscilla (Alan) Oppenheimer of Ashland, Oregon, Sally Worland of Columbus, Indiana, Stephen (Joanne Chory) Worland of Del Mar, California, and Joy (Paul Gambill) Worland of Montpelier, Vermont; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mr. Worland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Roberta; a son, Paul Worland; a granddaughter, Grace Taggart; and six brothers and sisters.
