Roger Allen Popp (76) of Effingham

Roger Allen Popp, 76, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to New Hope Church Youth Ministries.

Roger was born on September 21, 1940, in Pontiac, IL, the son of Anton F. “Sam” and Marjorie (Wagner) Popp. He married Marsha Edwards on July 4, 1974. Roger began his career farming with his father and brother in Pontiac, IL. Later he sold seed and retired as a District Sales Manager. Roger dearly loved his family and tried his best to live life to the fullest. Roger enjoyed just being around and socializing with others. He had a passion for boating and teaching others to waterski. He also found joy in other outdoor activities such as snowmobiling and four-wheeling.  

Roger is survived by his wife, Marsha of Effingham; children, Steven (Tammy) Popp of North Richland Hills, TX, Jodee (Paul) Ritter of Pontiac, Gina Popp of Altamont, and Jill (Larry) Adams of Effingham; grandchildren, Ryan and Nathan Popp, Baylee and Taylor Ritter, Sam and Jack Mathesius, and Landon, Ali, Beau, and Cole Adams; and sister, Barb Drach of Pontiac.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron Popp, and daughter, Sheri Lynn Popp.
