Larry W. Pickens, 85, of Effingham died at 5:40am Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Effingham Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
Private family service were held. Burial was in the Trexler Cemetery west of Newton, Illinois. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.

Larry was born on April 3, 1932, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Ernest T. and Pearl (Austin) Pickens. Larry served his country in the United States Navy. He was an operating engineer on the pipeline for many years. Larry was a member of the Effingham American Legion Post #120, Lodge 502 Loyal Order of the Moose and International Union of Operating Engineers Local #841 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Larry is survived by: Brother – Thorton “Buck” (Wife Marilyn) Pickens of Wheeler, Illinois...and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Art (Wilma) Pickens, Rex (Wilma Jean) Pickens and Herbert Shirley Pickens and sisters Lorraine (Vernon) Stauth and Marjorie (Lawrence) Harvey.
