Carole Sue Schafer, age 75, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 10:20 PM – Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – Monday, July 10 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM - Sunday at the church. In loving memory of Carole, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Carole was born on October 8, 1941, in Hunt City, Illinois the daughter of Ivan Floyd and Lorene (Fear) Maxey. She married Edward L. Schafer on September 8, 1962, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois and he survives. Carole was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Jasper County Home Extension. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was attending her kids and later her grandkid’s functions or traveling and dancing with Ed. Carole enjoyed camping, sewing and was an excellent cook. She was a member of the Vanderhoof bowling team and a volunteer of the American Red Cross blood drives for many years.
Carole is survived by- Husband of 54 years - Ed Schafer of Newton, Illinois; 5 Children- Douglas (Brenda) Schafer of St. Peter, Illinois, Gregory (Kelly) Schafer of Holland, Michigan, Robert (Loretta Hall) Schafer of Newton, Illinois, Pamela (David) Pilman of Newton, Illinois and Debra (Michael) Murbarger of Wheeler, Illinois; 11 Grandchildren- Brandon Smith, Alexis Schafer, Adam Schafer, Holly Erwin, Alecia Defend, Brittany Simms, Samuel Schafer, Nicholas Schafer, Jacob Pilman, Marcus Pilman and Jennifer Pilman; and 6 Great Grandchildren- Logan Smith, Braeden, Kamryn and Jovie Erwin, Brielle Buxton and Lainey Simms.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jack, Don, Darvin, Jerry and a sister Joyce Maxey.
