Wilma Beatrice Vandeveer (96) of Effingham, Formerly of Kinmundy

Wilma Beatrice Vandeveer, 96, formerly of Kinmundy, IL died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham.

Born April 12, 1921 in Alma, she was the daughter of Guy W. and Madeline (Wells) Shaffer who preceded her in death. She was a farm wife, loved to garden, cook, and care for her family. She had attended Elder country school, and both Kinmundy and Salem High Schools, 1936-1939. She was a member of the Kinmundy Methodist Church, and the Twilight Circle of the church. More recently, she attended the Effingham First Presbyterian Faith Circle. Her memberships included Kinmundy Shanghai Social Circle, played in the Kinmundy Kitchen Band, was a Charter member of the Home Extension Council, both the Marion and Effingham Farm Bureaus, a 4-H Club member, and the Kinmundy Women's Club, She was a Tri Chem consultant, and an avid collector of Longaberger Baskets. She married Herbert Vandeveer, May 24, 1942. He preceded her in death December 22, 1996.

Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Rita Vandeveer of Teutopolis, and granddaughters, Jennifer Newlin of Teutopolis, Julie Zuber, Joan Reardon and Joyce Vandeveer all of Effingham, and Dr. Janice (Vandeveer) Wernsing of Shumway; her great grandchildren, Blake and Charley Newlin, Jasmine and Jenalee Reardon, Owen and Collin Zuber, Jessica and Jacquelynn Wernsing, along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Miller of Salem, along with sisters-in-law Margaret Shaffer and Lucille Vandeveer both of Salem, and Ruby Shaffer of Kinmundy.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two sons, John William Vandeveer in 1977 and his wife Mary in 2005, and Ernest Leroy Vandeveer in 2004. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, John, Paul, and David Shaffer, and Herbert Anderson; her granddaughters Sheila Renee Vandeveer, and grandsons-in-law, Jonathon Wernsing and Bradley Newlin.

Funeral services will be 12 o'clock noon, Friday, June 30 at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem with Steve Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Summit Prairie Cemetery, rural Salem. Visiting hours will be from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour Friday at the funeral home. Memorials to Mrs. Vandeveer's memory may be made to the Kinmundy Methodist Church, or to the Summit Prairie Cemetery and will be accepted by the funeral home.
