Diane Elizabeth (Wente) Gebben, 60, of Mattoon, formerly of Effingham, died at 7:30 AM Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with her husband, Chris, at her side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 8 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis at the Wente plot. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, with a parish prayer service beginning at 4:00 PM. Donations may be made in her honor to the American Heart Association, St. Mary’s School, or the donor’s choice.
Diane was born on October 13, 1956 in Effingham, the daughter of Quirinus (Pete) and Anne (Wegman) Wente.
She is survived by Chris, who she married on May 6th, 1978 and the center of her world, her three children: Eric of Decatur, Gregory of Ottawa, and Elizabeth of Decatur; brother, Gary (Mary-Ellen) Wente, sister-in-law, Kathy Wente, along with several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronald Wente.
Diane was employed at Zinschlag State Farm where she worked for 38 years. Her favorite hobby was researching her family’s genealogy. Diane sang in the church choir for 20 years. She was also a member of the St. Mary’s PTA. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
