Hilda (Kerner) Dhom, 101, of Newton, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 5:13 AM – Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Saturday, June 10 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM – Saturday at the church. In loving memory of Hilda, memorials may be made to St. Thomas school or church or Newton Senior Center. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Hilda was born on September 11, 1915, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Lou and Anna (Schackmann) Kerner. She married Vincent Joseph Dhom on October 4, 1941, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1980. Hilda lived most of her life in Newton after working in Wilmette and Winnetka, Illinois for a number of years. She held various offices in the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Thomas, was a lifetime member of the Home Bureau as well as a member of the Quilt Club and a volunteer for meals on wheels for Senior Citizens of Jasper County. Her passions included gardening, traveling, and being an accomplished seamstress. She joined the E.R. Moore Co. in 1956.
Hilda is survived by: son Norman (Gloria) Dhom of Sunnyvale, California; daughter Dottie (Richard) Rhodes of Pekin, Illinois; granddaughter Kimberly (Mark) Klokkenga of Dunlap, Illinois; Kristin (Ken) Greene of Beaverton, Oregon; and Gina Dhom of Eugene, Oregon. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Hilda was preceded in death by grandson, Todd Rhodes (killed in Iraq in 2006) as well as her parents and all her younger brothers, Andrew, Carl, Emanuel (Botsy) and Neil.
