Rita F. Schwerdt, 83, of Effingham, Illinois formerly of Sigel, Illinois, passed away at 9:30 A.M. Sunday, May 7, 2017 in the Evergreen Nursing Center of Effingham, Illinois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 12 in the St. Michael The Archangel Church in Sigel, IL with the Rev. Father Sunder Ery officiating. Visitation for family and will be held from 4:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, with a Rosary at 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery in Sigel, Illinois. The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the S. E. A. R .C. H., Special Religious Education, or to Donor's Choice.

Rita was born January 24, 1934, in Sigel, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Dorothy (Ludwig) Schwerdt. She was a member of the St. Michael The Archangel Church of Sigel, IL. Rita was a retired machine operator for General Electric Company of Mattoon, IL.
Rita leaves one sister, Peggy Ballinger and husband Harold of Trowbridge, IL; several nieces and nephews.
Miss Schwerdt was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Henry, Lawrence, George "'Jack" and Michael Schwerdt; seven sisters, Dorothy Ellison, Eileen Williams, Laverne "Bonnie" Kortte, Emma Harmon, Marilyn Boling and Theresa Joan Schwerdt.
