Clarence L. Smith, 93, of Brownstown, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Monday May 1, 2017 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at Liberty Christian Church, rural Brownstown with Tom Fedrigon officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Liberty Cemetery or the donor’s choice. Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown in charge of arrangements.

Clarence was born on Tuesday, March 25, 1924 in Brownstown, the son of William Jasper and Sarah Alice (Hillock) Smith. He married Lois E. Hinton on October 16, 1955, at New Hope Baptist Church, Tower Hill. Clarence was a lifelong farmer and an Army veteran. He was a member of Liberty Christian Church.

He is survived by: his wife of over 61 years, Lois of Brownstown; sons, Bradley Smith of Brownstown, Larry Smith and his wife Kathy of Shelbyville and Stan Smith and his wife Lana of Brownstown; grandchildren, Summer (Heath) Summers, Kolton (Kaitlyn) Smith all of Shelbyville and Connor Smith of St. Peter; great grandchildren, Sophia and Paisley Summers; sister-in-law, Doris Hinton of Tower Hill and many nieces and nephews.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Harold Koester and Dale Smith, and sister, Mary Naber.
