Marilyn S. Davis, 71, of rural Dieterich, Illinois passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17 at the Cornerstone Christian Church, 3600 South Banker Street Effingham with Carroll Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Elliottstown. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 16 at the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich and one-half hour before the services in the church. Memorials may be made to help with the adoption of her grandson Crawford Glen Davis. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich. Marilyn was born September 29, 1941 in Lucas Township, Effingham County, the daughter of Crawford Lowell “Barney” Higgins and Ellen (Boerngen) Higgins.  She married James Davis June 7, 1960 in Dieterich and he survives.Marilyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She retired from the Dieterich school system, where she was a cook for more than 30 years. Marilyn was a strong and devoted Christian and was a member of the Winterrowd Christian Church. She was a former member of the Elliottstown Church of Christ until it closed in 1994.  She was very generous and hard-working – always willing to help, whether it was playing the piano at church or helping others in a time of need. Marilyn enjoyed cooking for her family every Sunday, gardening, flowers, traveling, bowling, painting, crafts, crocheting and playing the piano.

Marilyn is survived by husband of 52 years, James Davis of Dieterich; three sons, Kevin (wife Sandy) Davis of Dieterich, Tim (wife Courtney) Davis of Louisville, Kelly (wife Loretta) Davis of Dieterich; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Melissa and Isaac Davis; Aaron and Eddie Davis and Crawford Davis.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Janet Gossman and one in infancy.
