Emogene Ruth Adkins, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 31 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL or Strasburg United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Adkins was born on July 31, 1928 in Strasburg, IL, the daughter of Christian Martin and Louise Lading Kircher. She graduated from Strasburg High School in the Class of 1946. Emogene worked for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company as an operator and later as a supervisor. Following her retirement, she helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Strasburg, IL and Shelby County Farm Bureau. Emogene was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Illini. She married Alvin Dale Adkins on January 26, 1951. He died on October 28, 2011.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Brehmer and husband Gary of Strasburg, IL; brother, Harold Kircher of Decatur, IL; grandsons, Seth Brehmer of Argenta, IL and Zed Brehmer and wife Brandi of Strasburg, IL; and great grandchildren, Emma and Izabelle Brehmer both of Strasburg, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; brothers, Donald and Louis Kircher; sisters-in-law, Charlotte, Mariana and Nancy Kircher; and granddaughter, Courtney Brehmer.
