Rex Allen Hayes (70) of Greenup

Rex Allen Hayes, 70, of Greenup died at 9:50pm Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home.

Private family services will be held with burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery near Charleston. Arrangements are under the care of Meyer Funeral Home-Bishop Chapel in Greenup.

Rex Allen was born on February 21, 1947, in Coles County, Illinois, the son of Allen F. and Bertha (Matheney) Hayes. He married Bridget Kerrivan, and she survives. Rex served his country for 6 years in the United States Navy. He did 2 tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic. He was a graduate of Lakeland College with Associates in Applied Science degree. Rex had worked in construction and as a carpenter. He was an avid woodworker and had constructed several canoes.

Rex is survived by: Wife – Bridget Hayes; Children – James (Belinda) Hayes and Heather (Luke) Gerould; Step Daughter – Crista (Russell) Ellerbe; Grandchildren – Kaden Whitley, Alex Hayes, Jackson Hayes and Kennidi Gerould; and Step Grandchildren – Parker Schmidt and Cameron Ellerbe.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
