Trudy Carol Goeckner, 70, of Effingham, IL, died at 9:36 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. Trudy received last rites and passed with the entire family at her side.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 29 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Trudy to Catholic Charities or St. Anthony Schools.

Trudy was born on April 30, 1946, in Clinton, IL, the daughter of Harvey and Mabel (Shiedler) Fitts and Irene Fitts (stepmother). Trudy married Larry Goeckner on February 8, 1964. She was a lifetime member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Trudy was a beautician and the owner of “The Hair Care Shop” from 1975 to 1991, and then worked for LabCorp from 1995 to 1999. Trudy enjoyed gambling, from playing bingo at the KC Hall to vacations in Las Vegas, NV. She was an excellent cook and good at gardening. She also found joy in collecting owls.
Trudy is survived by her husband, Larry Goeckner of Effingham; sons, Tim (Brenda) Goeckner of Decatur, Brock (Susan) Goeckner of Effingham, Todd (Noelle) Goeckner of Indianapolis, IN, Dan Goeckner of Pahrump, NV, Brett (fiancée, Tiffany) Goeckner of Cleveland, OH, and Joel (Jessica) Goeckner of Altamont; sister, Naomi Taylor, of Springfield, MO, grandchildren, Stephanie, Jeremy (Sara), Jessica, Jennifer, Kyle, Christopher, Erin, Natalie, Nicholas, Owen, Jake, Lucy, Gabe, Robert, Julia, Meghan, and Autumn; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Conner, and Chase.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ardey Fitts; and three sisters, Vonda Chapman, Lois Depoister, and Mary Stortzum.
