Anneta Mae Howard, 85, of Hidalgo, Illinois passed away at 8:30 am on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 23 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Aten Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, National Direct Response Headquarters, 1200 Hosford Street, Suite 101, Hudson, WI 54016-9316.

Anneta was born on January 19, 1932 in Jasper County, the daughter of Bernard and Anos (Wax) Sowers. She married James L. Howard on October 10, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2001. Anneta was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rose Hill Household Science Club and the Rose Hill Community Church.

Surviving are children Linda (David) Ervin of Hidalgo, James (Karen) Howard of Hidalgo and Larry (Karen) Howard of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren DeAnn (Larry Jr.) McClain, Shane (Tanya) Howard, Jill (Gene) Marble, Holly (Chris) Hankins, Brad (Cassie) Howard, Ryan (Bruna) Howard, Kylie Howard and Leigh Anne (Sam) Hansen; great grandchildren Austin McClain, Tyler Marble, Avery Howard, Lindsey McClain, Darci Marble, Collin Hankins, Kason Howard, Cole Howard, Marshall Hankins and Kai Howard; half-brother Burl Sowers of TX and half-sister Marsha Roll of Greenup.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Mabel Sowers, brothers Ernie and Carl Sowers and half-sister Sandra Culver.
