Jeanie Meyer (85) of rural Effingham

Jeanie Meyer, 85, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 1:40 p.m. at her home in Green Creek, in the company of her family.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 20 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Green Creek, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to time of service Monday morning at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Donor’s Choice. Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jeanie was born March 14, 1932 in Effingham, the fourth child of Enoch and Carrie (Goodwin) Miller. She married Eugene H. Meyer on January 13, 1951. From that day forward, Jeanie proclaimed that thirteen was her lucky number. Eugene and Jeanie (a.k.a. “The Pair of Jeans”) were musical entertainers in the Effingham area and in the Florida retirement community, Floral City, where they lived for eighteen winters. They also spent their retirement years traveling the world, with the “Young at Heart Club”, a group affiliated with Crossroads Bank where Jeanie worked for many years; first as a clerk and finally as vice president, (also belly dancer-in-chief). Jeanie was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek.

Jeanie is survived by her husband, Eugene and six children, Wendy Meyer (Wayne Neese) of Charleston, Stan (Darlene) Meyer of Altamont, Melody Dougan of Mulberry, AR, Steve (Collette) Meyer of Bishop Creek, Cheryl Simon of Chatham and Tom (Sally) Meyer of Watson; lucky number, thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; siblings, Enoch Miller, Jr., Don (Shirley) Miller, both of Effingham, Judy (Frank) Kinney of Heartville and Jerry Dale Miller of Beecher City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Kevin Meyer; four sisters, Ruth Koester, Mary Donaldson, Wanda Finfrock and Shirley Yingst and sons-in-law, Robert Dougan and David Simon.
